ART AT HILITE
“Origin” Art Exhibit
Origin by Stella Bronson and Fumi Amano contemplates the ancestry of material and life. Through immersive, large-scale sculpture, this playful installation honors the necessity of creation, preservation, and appreciation of life on Earth.
Using untouched trees and old furniture, both artists invite visitors to interact with the installation. Walk through an assembly of harvested Ponderosa Pines and climb inside Amano’s womb sculpture to experience rebirth and reconsider the origin of life.

Forest Management by Stella Bronson
Ponderosa Pine trees are the dominant tree in abundance to Eastern Washington. This project coincides with private, family land management in Pomeroy, WA. Tree thinning is important for fire prevention and maintaining healthy forest growth.
Mature Ponderosa Pines are well equipped to withstand wildfires, with thick plates on their bark. On the contrary; younger and smaller trees are not developed enough to be resistant. If trees are growing too close together, this can cause an acceleration in an active fire and tree crowding will not allow enough sunlight for optimal growth.
This installation reflects land preservation and trees as a utility, while honoring rural regions of WA state that do not get much recognition in Seattle.
Womb by Fumi Amano
As a woman, wife and mother, I have to be soft inside and strong or defensive outside to protect myself and my family. As a representation of female bodies, the uterus acts as a bed for babies to grow. I created the sculpture Womb to represent my mental state as a woman. The sculpture consists of a bunch of ring shaped MDF board with bed legs. Visitors are welcome to crawl inside of the sculpture. I hope visitors will enjoy the interaction and reappreciate female bodies.
Artist Bios
Stella Bronson
Stella Bronson romanticizes mundane objects and practices of rural life by transforming construction materials and recycled products into large scale sculpture. Bronson explores concepts of nature, integrated with the human experience. Taking inspiration from discarded materials found in the land, she is fueled by observation and the particular interest in the way these objects, may they be plant or manufactured, sit in a landscape. A materials history not only informs the content of her work, but holds a story unseen to the naked eye.
Over the years, her work has been shown at Method Gallery, The Vestibule, 9th & Thomas, Bumbershoot, Port Angeles Sculpture Park, and The Museum Of Museums in Seattle, WA. She was also granted an honorable mention in the 2021 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture awards through the International Sculpture Center, featured in Sculpture Magazine, volume 41 no.1.
Fumi Amano
Fumi Amano is a Japanese artist living and working in Snohomish, Washington. Amano strives to break the stereotypes of Asian ideals of womanhood and beauty influenced by Western culture. Through her art, she challenges the “silent Asian woman” to reveal the complexities that lie underneath the guise of the superficial ‘dream’ of being an Asian woman. Amano has exhibited her artwork in museums and galleries nationally and internationally, including the Bellevue Art Museum in Bellevue, WA, the Storefronts program supported by Shunpike, and Toyama Glass Art Museum in Japan. In 2017, Amano received 2nd prize in the “Out of the Box” outdoor sculpture exhibition at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art in Auburn, AL.
Hilite’s multi-media fabrication
Suspension is a multi-media permanent fabrication celebrating the interconnectedness of humanity and nature. Each piece represents the elements and seamlessly flows into one another in bold, transformative ways. The work pays homage to the historic foundation of Seattle’s ID neighborhood, as well as reflecting the beauty of the outdoors that make up the PNW. Rather than being a static work of art, the pieces were developed to dynamically interact with the elements, continually providing an ever-changing experience to the residents and viewers, as do the seasons and the fragility of life. All works were designed by visual artist Barry Johnson with the help of Trent Development, Emerald Glass, Waypoint Graphics, and Specialty Metals.
infinity flow, steel panels
This suspended sculpture is made up of thousands of tiny perforations that represent waves created by wind-flow. Each four-part section of panels creates a wave, and as the sun moves across the sky throughout the day, the light will cast projections that move across the walls and courtyard, creating a suspended ocean. Depending on where the piece is viewed from, the weather, and the time of day, residents and visitors will have a different experience.
monuments, printed aluminum panels
Paying tribute to the name of the development, the bold, continuous movements and colors honor the printing press, the power of the human hand, and the electric colors of highlighters. Traditionally used to draw attention to an item, the highlighter expressionist pieces were developed to remind viewers of the importance of taking time away from their busy lives to pause and appreciate the elements.
prisms, glass walkway
As visitors and residents walk through the development, they’ll be treated to an illuminated pathway that leads them to the staircase where all artworks can be viewed at the same time. The pathway design flows from blue to yellow and magenta and will refract different shades of colors as the sun moves throughout the sky, pushing the colors into one another. This piece celebrates the beauty and mystery of light.
